2024 at the movies took movie fans from Arrakis to Oz (and a bunch of other places in between). Where will we go in 2025? Get an idea with our full look at the 2025 release schedule for new movies.

We're keeping track of all of the new films coming out in 2025 (exclusively on the big screen, no streaming only titles here), from the big franchises — including the latest entries in the MCU to Wicked: For Good — to more adult-driven movies or family-friendly titles. We'll keep this list updated as new movies are added or in the event that release dates shift so you can know exactly what is coming out in a given week and what exciting movies are on their way.

Check out our complete rundown of the 2025 new movies release schedule directly below.

March

The Alto Knights

2025 new movies: release schedule for this year's new movies (2)

  • Release date: March 21
  • Cast: Robert De Niro, Cosmo Jarvis, Debra Messing, Kathrine Narducci
  • Director: Barry Levinson

Robert De Niro stars opposite himself, as the Oscar-winner plays the roles of both Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, two powerful figures in organized crime whose rivalry comes to a head in the late 1950s, setting off a series of events that will change the course of organized crime in the US.

Read WTW's The Alto Knights review.

Ash

  • Release date: March 21
  • Cast: Eiza Gonzalez, Aaron Paul, Iko Uwais, Beulah Koale, Kate Elliott, Beulah Koale, Ellison and Andrew B. Miller
  • Director: Steven Ellison (aka Flying Lotus)

A murder mystery gets combined with sci-fi as a woman wakes up on a strange planet to find that her entire crew is dead. Now she must put the pieces together to figure out what happened.

Asian Persuasion

  • Release date: March 21 (US)
  • Cast: Dante Basco, Kevin Kreider, Paolo Montalban, Geneva Carr, Scarlet Sherr, Celia Au, Jax Bacan
  • Director: Jhett Tolentino

After receiving a few laurels when it first showed at film festivals in 2023, the new comedy Asian Persuasion hits US movie theaters this month, following an underachiever that comes up with a new scheme to avoid paying alimony payments to his fashion-exec ex-wife.

The Assessment

2025 new movies: release schedule for this year's new movies (3)

  • Release date: March 21
  • Cast: Elizabeth Olsen, Alicia Vikander, Himesh Patel, Charlotte Richie, Minnie Driver
  • Director: Fleur Fortuné

This could be one of the strangest tests that I can recall anyone having to take, as sci-fi drama The Assessment sees a couple (Olsen and Patel) being observed in order to determine if they will be allowed to have a child. But their assessor (Vikander) ends up pushing them to their psychological limits. Having premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, the movie already has a "Fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Bob Trevino Likes It

  • Release date: March 21
  • Cast: Barbie Ferreira, John Leguizamo
  • Director: Tracie Laymon

Euphoria alum Barbie Ferreira gets her first chance to lead a movie in the dramedy Bob Trevino Likes It, where she stars as a 20-something whose father decides he wants nothing more to do with her. As she tries to reconnect with him, she makes a friend online with another Bob Trevino, who attempts to help her find the love and support she needs. The winner of the Grand Jury and Audience Award at the 2024 South by Southwest Film Festival, Bob Trevino Likes It hopes general audiences like the movie as well.

Locked

  • Release date: March 21
  • Cast: Bill Skarsgard, Anthony Hopkins
  • Director: David Yarovesky

After terrorizing people in Nosferatu, Bill Skarsgard is now the one being tormented in this new thriller where he plays a thief that gets more than he bargains for when he steals a luxury SUV.

Magazine Dreams

2025 new movies: release schedule for this year's new movies (4)

  • Release date: March 21
  • Cast: Jonathan Majors, Harrison Page, Hayley Bennett
  • Director: Elijah Bynum

After stunning many at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023 (including me, as you can see in my Magazine Dreams review), Magazine Dreams was put on the shelf following the allegations against Jonathan Major. The movie is now being released wide.

Snow White

2025 new movies: release schedule for this year's new movies (5)

  • Release date: March 21
  • Cast: Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, Patrick Page, Andrew Burnap, Ansu Kabia
  • Director: Marc Webb

The original Disney animated classic is now getting its live-action adaptation from Walt Disney Studios, with Rachel Zegler taking on the iconic role of Snow White and Gal Gadot as the evil queen. The Disney live-action remakes have been a bit hit or miss; will Snow White be more like Cinderella or Pinocchio?

The Ballad of Wallis Island

2025 new movies: release schedule for this year's new movies (6)

  • Release date: March 28
  • Cast: Tom Basden, Tim Key, Carey Mulligan
  • Director: James Griffiths

After earning rave reviews from its Sundance 2025 screening (the movie has a 96% "Fresh" score as of March 3), The Ballad of Wallis Island could be the spring indie that sings its way into your heart this year. Literally, as Carey Mulligan and Tom Basden star as ex bandmates who are reunited when an eccentric, but sweet lottery winner pays them to perform on his secluded island.

Death of a Unicorn

2025 new movies: release schedule for this year's new movies (7)

  • Release date: March 28 (US)
  • Cast: Jenna Ortega, Paul Rudd, Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Richard E. Grant, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani
  • Director: Alex Scharfman

What if unicorns weren't only real, but apparently were vengeful killing machines? That appears to be a big part of the premise of Death of a Unicorn, another A24 movie releasing this month with a star-studded cast and a bonkers enough plot that it could be one of the most wild movie-going experiences of the month.

The Friend

2025 new movies: release schedule for this year's new movies (8)

  • Release date: March 28 (US, limited)
  • Cast: Naomi Watts, Bill Murray, Constance Wu, Ann Dowd
  • Directors: Scott McGehee & David Siegel

Naomi Watts has her hands full when she takes ownership of a massive Great Dane that belonged to her friend and mentor after his death. Another 2024 film festival favorite finally getting a general release, The Friend could be one to bring the tissues for as Watts and her new companion rely on each other to go through their grief.

The Penguin Lessons

2025 new movies: release schedule for this year's new movies (9)

  • Release date: March 28
  • Cast: Steve Coogan, Jonathan Pryce
  • Director: Peter Cattaneo

Another story of a person and an animal becoming friends this month is The Penguin Lessons, which sees Steve Coogan star as a professor who against the odds befriends a penguin, which helps him connect with his students as he teaches as a boarding school in Argentina.

The Woman in the Yard

2025 new movies: release schedule for this year's new movies (10)

  • Release date: March 28
  • Cast: Danielle Deadwyler, Russell Hornsby
  • Director: Jaume Collet-Sera

Coming off the Netflix hit movie Carry-On, Jaume Collet-Sera reteams with Danielle Deadwyler for this new horror movie about a family that is unsettled when a mysterious, shrouded woman appears in their front yard.

A Working Man

2025 new movies: release schedule for this year's new movies (11)

  • Release date: March 28
  • Cast: Jason Statham, Jason Flemyng, Merab Ninidze, Maximilian Osinski, Cokey Falkow, Michael Peña, David Harbour, Noemi Gonzalez, Arianna Rivas, Emmett J. Scanlan, Eve Mauro
  • Director: David Ayer

The Beekeeper team, aka director David Ayer and leading man Jason Statham, is back together in the action movie A Working Man. Statham stars as an ex-solider who takes it upon himself to rescue the daughter of his boss, discovering a deep, dark underworld in the process. Statham continues to be a popular action star, so there should be a good bit of interest with this one.
