Born in Richland County, she was a daughter of the late James and Rachel Flowers. She received her B.A. degree from Benedict College and her master's degree from North Carolina State.
She was a retired schoolteacher. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and president of the United Methodist Women, District Office of South Carolina Conference.
